The East Of England BIGGA section was origionally formed in around 1983/84.
A group of greenkeepers from the Eastern region got together in The Fox public house between Colsterworth and Stamford on the A1 with the help of Steve Dickinson (Rigby Taylor), they were David Salisbury(Burghley Park), Colin Swingler (Belton Park), Gilbert Ogden (Stoke Rochford), Dick Fogg (Luffenham Heath), John Donaldson (Milton), Graham Patrick (Woodhall Spa), Peter Bloodworth (Worth Draining). The idea came from a greenkeeper called David Jones, who was Head Greenkeeper at Ipswich GC (Purdis Heath) from 1976 to 1983/4, he came along to give a talk to the group. A committee was formed they were: Peter Bloodworth/Graham Patrick Chairman Colin Swindler Secretary David Salisbury Treasurer with the others as committee members. Meetings were held at the Fox regularly for the next 10 years where the comitte was voted back in everytime. Over the next 14 years the section has grown from strength to strength to become popular with the greenkeepers from all over the county. |
